Daughters of Africa

Kenya

“Daughters of Africa" is a an ongoing photographic project developed to celebrate African women and girls in their myriad forms, shapes and colours. It seeks to highlight the many roles that the daughters of the African continent assume and to recognise the contribution of these women/girls as custodians of Africa's past, present and future. The idea behind Daughter's is to move away from the narrow focus on "woman" as either "mother", or "businesswoman" or victim/survivor" or "beauty queen" but to demonstrate that African women are all of these and more.

The objectives of the Daughters of Africa concept are:

  • To honour African women/girls for the invaluable role that they play
  • To educate and create awareness of their diverse contributions
  • To inspire others

Through a series of photo essays and interviews, the project attempts to reveal what makes Daughters of Africa holistically grounded in the fabric of the continent.
